This is pointed mostly one direction. For the rest of you, I offer my apologies for being remedial.
The School District is not the same as the city. The School Board does not answer to the Council. Yes. Your school taxes show up on the same bill as the city's.
The Fire District is not the same as the city. The city is represented but does not control the Fire District. Yes. Your fire district taxes show up on the same bill as the city's.
The Post Office is a federal facility. The city doesn't get to decide where the Post Office goes. In light of route changes proposed in Milton and put in place in other cities perhaps we should be thankful we have a Post Office here.
Your tax bill also has County taxes and Tech School District taxes on it. The City Council doesn't get to vote on these either.
State aids will be falling again. There may be no choice but to use funds tabbed for one department to address more pressing needs of another department. Think it through. If they don't take money from here to pay for that then they'll have to raise the money on the tax bill somewhere else. And that's what you were complaining about to start with, isn't it?
