Pity The Poor Oil Company

Shell Canada's first quarter profits were a scant $447,000,000. That's not even $313,000,000 American.

Tom Tomorrow suggests a campaign commercial for the Dems.

How do people feel about a windfall profits tax? I see no problem with it, however, I don't think they should rebate consumers. Oil is going to "peak" the only question is when, not if?
After peak oil demand will exceed supplies and prices will really be driven up. I think that the "windfall tax" should be earmarked for R&D for alternative energy research. I'd be much more content with high gas prices if I knew the money was going to the future alternative technologies rather than to the oil companies balance sheets.
