Can Somebody Share The 411?

Does anybody out there know about skateboarders in the pool? Wanna share?

FYI:
Last week a number of skateboarders broke into the pool by bending back one of the closing brackets on an access portion of the fence. Apparently this was done so they could get away quicker, even though they probably could have just shimmied the fence.

Once in the now empty pool they did "rail slides" at two edges of pool in the shallow end. This caused the new paint job to be ruined and the underlying concrete to be chewed up. Repair includes some caulking and repainting that will not be able to completely place the pool in the condition it was prior to the damage.

This was reported to me and shown by the City's aquatic director Rick Hamacher.

The reason I went up there to see the damage myself is because I want to be able to envision that damage the next time the skate club or Ald. Juergens comes to finance and asks for money for the skate park. I will not support that in any way.

Thus far the skate park has been nothing but a headache. Vandalism, swearing, littering, biking on equipment and bullying are just a few of the things that have been consistently complained of since it was erected.

And now they have resurfaced the area the equipment was on. Hmmm more money. So basically this headache is a money-pit and a beacon for the element of this community that has little to no respect for public property. For shame young people, for shame.

I really do not enjoy using this term but I feel right now I must...I told you so.

Grumps I to saw the damage to the pool and Mason reports correctly. Not to plug my own blog but I have some rather interesting comments made about the club and even more laughable myself. I would enjoy your take on the park

Did you see the surface the park was on? The low spots (puddles and mud) and not to mention the peeling surface all over.

Most of the users of the skate park are not members of the Skate Club; it is hard to get every single person involved (that should be fully understandable). The Skate Club pushed and advocated for this, and we are getting the blame for the problems, rather than specific people who should be getting warnings, ticketed, etc. Also, I've been told from some older citizens that three kids were arrested for this, and that some were bikers too, not just skateboarders.

Forgot to include that most of the younger skaters missed out on all the work that the older skaters put in over the years to get this park to happen.
