America voted and picked themselves another milquetoast. Tom Alesia said in Monday's WSJ that Taylor Hicks was to soul music what the McRib is to barbecue. Calling Hicks soulful is insulting to thousands of artists who have put more into their music than a little bit of writhing and posturing.
Even though this house was riding the McPheever Bandwagon I don't believe that the two strongest candidates met in the Idol final. I certainly don't believe that a maginally talented bar singer like Taylor Hicks will become an idol in any sense of the word.
63 million votes? American Dreamz was closer to the truth than we care to admit.

I actually like Taylor and think he could be a nice mid-level talent.
But winning American Idol was the worse thing that ever happened to him.
Now, they'll try to make him into something he's not.
If he's smart, he follow the Ruben Route and just run off and do his own thing.
(I actually thought Chris was the most "deserving" this round. If there is such a thing.)
